ENDURANCE IN THE 2020 OLYMPICS?

Horsetalk.co.nz - Felicity Foxhunter blog

April 29th, 2010 by Felicity Foxhunter

Yes, possums, you read the headline right! My endurance fans are abuzz at being in with a chance of racing at the Olympic Games in 2020.

But how could this be, you ask, with equestrian sport in the Olympic bad books?

Simple. Dubai's head honcho Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum came out this week and said that he was seriously considering a bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. As we all know, he is horse-mad, and despite being
in a bit of hot water last year, is very much endurance-mad, too.

Add to this the fact his wife (No.2) is the boss-lady of the FEI,
Princess Haya, who also happens to be an Olympic Committee (IOC) member.          Do the math!

See why endurance riders around the globe are eyeing their four-legged prospects for 10 years' time?

A few tweaks might be needed for us "others" to keep up with the arabs ... a previous world record for 120km is 4 hours 32 minutes and 36 seconds … the same distance was covered here in New Zealand in 7:46:55 at the nationals earlier this year...

ENDURANCE AROUND THE WORLD - NAMIBIA

Namibiasport.com.na

by editor on Tue, 04/27/2010

The Namibia Equestrian Federation (NAMEF) held its first ever awards ceremony on Saturday, 24 April 2010. A total of 47 awards were handed over, of which six were for endurance riding.

"We are very excited that we were successful in starting the annual awards. Our riders, officials and support personnel are doing huge amounts of work and this is evident in the results that the sport is achieving on international stages. We have seen an increase in the quality of our sport and are looking forward to a great 2010 season", said Riaan van Rooyen, President of NAMEF.

The Namibian Equestrian Federation, or NAMEF, is the body in Namibia which is responsible to develop and look after the disciplines that are affiliated to the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). As such it is then also logical that NAMEF is affiliated to the FEI.

The Namibia Endurance Riding Association (NERA) is an associate member of NAMEF. NAMEF is responsible for all nine disciplines that are part of the FEI, however, six of these disciplines are practiced in Namibia, to varying degrees of success. They are show jumping, dressage, endurance riding, equitation, eventing and vaulting.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011

– FLORAC – THE RACE IS BACK!

Done. The association will organize Equestrian Endurance Lozere, in Florac, the European Championship 2011. A deserved win, after a year of administrative campaign, Crucis organizers candidates for this type of event big size ... He, for Ian Williams, a return to "qualities of yesteryear" endurance. In other words, those of Jean-Louis Leclerc, the return to

"a race of riders rather than a race horse." Back to basics, then. Such a discipline that combines sports, adventure and geography. But this version of the endurance is it soluble in the future, focused on racing flat, fast and sand?

January 20, 2010

by Robin Marshall

Qualified endurance horses in Australia must now be microchipped before they can compete, under new rules effective from January 1.

The Australian Endurance Riders Association (AERA) will not issue a logbook to horses without a microchip and a full veterinary identification.

The move follows the Equine Influenza outbreak in 2007, when many horses in New South Wales and Queensland were microchipped by the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) after being vaccinated.

"The Government at the time stated that they would like all horses to be microchipped for tracking and ease of identification," said AERA secretary Anne Jones.

Re:The introduction of an effective doping control

ARD AND ZDF HOLD CONSTRUCTIVE TALKS WITH THE FEI
4 September 2009

Due to concerns regarding developments in international equestrian sport, FEI President, HRH Princess Haya, approached ARD chairman and SWR director general Peter Boudgost and ZDF director general Markus Schächter.

All three agree that clear, binding and verifiable mechanisms to control doping need to be introduced. These are the decisive prerequisites to restore the credibility of and public confidence in the sport. “The introduction of an effective doping control system is also a precondition for ARD and ZDF’s support to equestrian sport,” Boudgoust and Schächter said following the meeting.

The FEI, ARD and ZDF wish to remain in contact regarding the future broadcast of equestrian events on television. The discussions took place in a constructive atmosphere.

LETTER FROM EQUINE CANADA TO USEF RE: INTERNATIONAL HIGH PERFORMANCE FEE

(Thank you very much to Akaash, on behalf of Endurance Canada)

USEF Article GR207

I hope this note finds you well. I am writing to again thank you and your colleagues for hosting the Canadian delegation in April during the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event. We enjoyed our selves tremendously, and found our meetings most productive. We very much look forward to returning your kindness by hosting another Canada-US meeting at a Canadian equestrian event next year.

I also wish to follow-up our exchange regarding  USEF  article GR207, concerning the International High Performance Fee . As we discussed, we are hoping that the  USEF  will consider an amendment to this article, to exclude from the fee members in good standing from other national federations competing in  FEI  competitions in the United States.  Canada certainly understands that the  USEF  is at liberty to fund its programmes through such levies as it deems appropriate. However, I am sure you will understand that it seems less than magnanimous for the  USEF  to compel international athletes to pay a fee whose sole and stated purpose is to help American athletes defeat them.  As I am sure you will understand, this is a particularly vexed question for Canadians, given the long and happy history our two countries share of welcoming one another’s athletes to compete with and against one another on a level playing field.

Should you need any additional information to assess our request, I hope you will consider my federation and me to be at your disposal. Please accept my thanks in advance for your consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Akaash Maharaj
