Coaching

Endurance Canada (EC) is working toward being included as a nationally recognized equestrian sport for the purposes of coaching certification and athlete development in Canada.  As a sub committee of Equine Canada, the governing body for nationally recognized equestrian sport, EC’s planned coaching program will incorporate the new “competency based” National Coaching Certification program. Three “contexts” are recognized by National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and Equine Canada, and will exist for certification of coaches.

Instructor of Beginners:

The intention of this context is to provide instruction at an introductory level to beginners.  This context presently exist across Canada for English, Western, & Saddle Seat.  Driving and Endurance are in progress.

High Performance Coach:

Still a work in progress.  This context is for coaches who are working with riders actively competing at national and international levels.  The Specialized facet is for those coaches who are working with riders who compete in a distinct discipline and need to know the finer points of competition within that discipline.

The Education Committee is currently working on training material for the Instructor of Beginners –

Endurance context.

This is as direct result of the proposal that was presented to Equine Canada late in 2008.  The full implementation of this proposal will allow the Endurance discipline to be included in the transition and start certifying Endurance instructors and coaches as soon as possible.  The Education Committee aims to benefit from work that has already been completed and to avoid “re-inventing the wheel.”  Our goal is to also participate alongside other recognized organizations such as Dressage Canada, Jump Canada, and Eventing Canada to develop material within the Endurance context.  As we move forward with the proposal, the Education Committee will be looking for qualified "volunteers" who will be prepared to apply themselves in achieving the pre-requisites at each level of the National Coaching Certification Program in 2011 and 2012.  We hope to be submitting our Instructor of Beginners program to Equine Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada in the coming months.  More information on the NCCP and Equine Canada program can be found online.
